Introduction

This blog contains regular postings relating to the Traditional Latin Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. It includes regular commentary on the saints days and the liturgical cycle, with brief background and extracts from the liturgy both in Latin and English. Much of the material has been extracted from the 'St Andrew's Daily Missal', Dom Gueranger's 'Liturgical Year', or similar sources.

Little Offices for each day of the week

Little Offices are a very traditional devotion, and were a staple of Pre-Reformation primers (prayer-books for the educated laity). They are common in prayer-books from the 18th and 19th centuries, going into decline perhaps in the early 20th; with the possible exception of the Little Office of the Immaculate Conception.

The Little Office of Our Lady is well known, but is of a different kind to these - it is effectively the Divine Office of Our Lady, but said on any day of the year. Most of these offices don't have psalms, and can be said rapidly by busy people. Ideal for a revival about now! Any office can be said on any day, but the following schedule is based on the sources that I have found.

Sunday - The Most Holy Trinity or All Saints

Monday - The Holy Spirit

Tuesday - The Holy Angels or The Most Holy Name of Jesus

Wednesday - St Joseph or The Faithful Departed

Thursday - The Most Holy Sacrament

Friday - The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus or The Holy Cross

Saturday - The Immaculate Conception of Our Lady or Our Lady of Sorrows
